Community College Graduate
Tsisnami "Sissy" Sakvarlishvili is a Georgian-American journalist, writer, and activist whose work amplifies the voices of marginalized communities and champions freedom and democracy.
Born in Tbilisi during the Soviet era, she endured political upheaval and Russia’s 2008 invasion of Georgia, which displaced her family, before pursuing her passion for education and storytelling.
Sissy has reported on politics, culture, and the Georgian diaspora in New York, interviewing figures such as former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili and NBA star Zaza Pachulia. She will attend The Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism this fall. Her third book, “Georgia After the Collapse of the Soviet Union,” examines Georgia’s political and historical transformation after the Soviet era.
